Fortran creator dies

I found this interesting because Fortran was my first programming language (at the University of Cincinnati back in 1970-71)

Fortran creator John Backus dies

I'm pretty sure that we used Fortran 66 because we were able to utilize subroutines and the earlier Fortran IV did not support subroutines.

U.C. had an IBM 360/65. All of our coding was written by hand on coding forms, then key-punched (by the student!), then submitted to a batch stream. The best turn-around time was in the middle of the night.
