Bot invasion is likely cause of disk problem

Comment: Star Tribune technical editor addresses Botnets with good advice.

Excerpt:

Internet hackers can exploit security flaws to turn a PC into a remotely controlled "bot" (short for robot). Such hackers collect groups of bot-infected computers into "botnets," which are used for illegal activities such as transmitting spam or launching attacks on websites. On an average day there are about 64,000 bot-infected PCs on the Internet, network security firm Symantec reported recently, based on data gathered in the second half of 2006. That was up 11 percent from the previous six-month period.
